Very short story on Domestic Violence:
Marriage is a beautiful thing, but which is better? Walk out in peace or walk out in pieces? Hmmmm. Chika wanted a happy home where she will live happily ever after with the man in her life. But somehow, everything went wrong, and she found herself in the hands of “Mr Wrong” who never stopped beating her BLUE-BLACK at he slightest provocation; all because she wished to earn some money for herself.
Her husband was very Domineering, he was too jealous and too insecure… he never wanted his wife (Chika) to be financial independent even after four kids. He never wanted her to be richer than him. He gives her little or no money for her upkeep; all he wanted for her was to be a FULL-TIME house wife to attend to all his needs. But he forgot that Chika is a wife, a mother, someone’s daughter, someone’s sister… he forgot that Chika is a human that have got her own needs, wants, dreams, desires … and aspirations.
At first, it started with verbal abuse… then, it graduated to physical abuse. Chika experienced seven years of constant verbal and physical abuse from her husband all because she wanted to be useful to herself and her world at large. At first, she was enduring everything all because she never wanted others to know what she was going through. She was gradually becoming a shadow of herself; withdrawing from society all because she wants to protect her home. A home that is worse than a nightmare.
When the abuse became unbearable, when her husband broke her head with a bottle on one early morning attack, it got dawn on her that if she keeps staying there, she might never walk out alive from the hands of this fierce monster she called her husband. A living dog is better than a dead lion; she thought.
Then, on one bright Friday afternoon, while her husband was still at work, with tears rolling like a stream from her eyes, she decided to walk out in peace and alive with her children …for she just can`t take it anymore; she left her marriage.
She never wanted pity from anyone, so, she encouraged, picked and dusted herself. Three months after, she got a job in an Oil and Gas company…in less than a year, there was a big transformation in her life as well as her children. As she looks back from where she was coming from to where she is, all she could say is: God thank you for saving me!
